Without a doubt, autumn is my favourite time of the year. It’s the start of long evenings in front of the fire, it’s the start of jumpers and hot chocolate season, and it’s also the start of the anticipation of Christmas. The leaves are turning and the temperatures have definitely dropped, so now’s a great time to think about how you can make a few updates to your interiors to honour the new season.
Here are five cosy ways to bring autumn unto your home…
Add Cosy Throws And Fluffy Cushions
Adding a big chunk throw to your home, alongside some fluffy cushions in the season’s on-trend colours, is one of the quickest, easiest, and most budget-friendly ways to breathe a bit of life into your home. They also give you the perfect opportunity to enjoy snuggling up on the sofa after a long day, and what could be better during the autumn?
If the thought of a fluffy cushion doesn’t really float your boat, you could try velvet instead. It’s a material that adds a splash of opulence to any room, and you won’t have to look far to find some really great items on the high street right now.
Create A Pumpkin Display
Autumn and Halloween go hand in hand. There’s an abundance of beautiful pumpkins in the supermarkets at the moment, and the only limit here is your imagination. You could spray paint them with your favourite colours, carve out unusual designs, or create a focal point in your room by finding them in different hues and shapes.
Remember too that it gives you the ideal opportunity to get a little more creative in the kitchen, and there are tons of recipes you can try that are ideal for autumn entertaining. My personal favourite is pumpkin and bacon soup, served with a massive buttery chunk of bread!
Make A Wreath For Your Front Door With Foraged Materials
This weekend, head out for a walk in the countryside. Keep your eyes wide open, and you’ll be amazed at how many natural treasures you can find that can be used to decorate your home. Think conkers, pine cones, leaves, and deep green foliage.
Every year at around this time, I make an autumnal wreath for my front door. It costs next to nothing to create, and it’s always a real talking point.
Go For Gold With A New Rug
Gold was big news in the spring and summer this year, and you’re likely to see even more of it moving forward. A real unique way to bring it into your home for autumn is to try a gold rug. It’ll be warming, and also add a touch of luxury.
I personally love Wayfair’s Bakero Damru handwoven gold rug. As an added bonus, it’s currently on offer so you can save yourself a little chunk of cash!
Try Darker Tones On Your Feature Wall
If you’re anything like me, you’ll love a good feature wall. It’s a simple and straightforward way to tap into the latest trends and ensure that your interiors reflect the current season. At this point in the year, I look for a tin of paint in a darker shade to add that cosy feel to my sitting room.
Navy is really on trend at the moment, and it looks absolutely amazing alongside a few gold accessories. When using a darker colour, make sure that you use a base coat to protect your plastering.
As you can see, updating your home for autumn doesn’t have to involve a big and lengthy improvement project, and it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune.
Which of these ideas will be you be trying for 2018?
