Creating joy seems to be very much the topic of discussion this new year. We’re all looking for ways to get rid the stuff that no longer serves up, and open up space for creating more fulfilment and happiness in our lives. It’s a wonderful sentiment, and it’s one that I’m firmly onboard with.
But creating joy is a fairly broad resolution. What does it look like in practical terms? And what are the things that you can do on a daily basis to make it a reality?
These are questions that I’ve been considering these past few weeks, and I think I may have stumbled upon one or two answers. Here are my suggestions for making this year your most fulfilling yet…
Bring a bit of romance into your life
At the end of the day, we all enjoy a bit of romance. But with many of us working longer hours and having more and more responsibilities outside of work, it’s an area that’s all too often extremely neglected. The good news here is that advances in technology have made it easier than ever before to find exactly what you’re looking for. Whether you’re eager to find the one, or you just fancy experimenting with sex dating sites, you could be just a few clicks away from getting what you want.
Focus on experiences, not things
As you’ll know if you’re a regular reader here, I’m a big fan of putting my own stamp on my home, and creating a living space that reflects my personality. Maybe you’re the same. What’s important to remember though is that it’s never about a new sofa, or a new kitchen, or buying that set of pans that you’ve had your eye on for ages. It’s about building a space that’s welcoming, homely, and somewhere that you can curl up with a good book or share a delicious dinner with your friends. When you keep this in mind, you often feel much less pressure.
Put your social life back on the agenda
How often do you promise yourself that you’ll message that old friend and invite them round for coffee, but months later find that you just haven’t done it? We’ve all been there. Sometimes, it feels like there just aren’t enough hours in the day. But having a social life is great for your mental health, and general feelings of wellbeing. Make it your mission to reconnect with that school friend, or arrange a cocktail party at your home, or if you’re feeling really bold, branch out a little and try a no strings attached Ireland dating site. You never know… It could be the start of something really exciting!
It’s easy to go into a new year telling yourself that you want to create change, and that you want to live a more fulfilling life. What it really comes down to though is taking action, and doing something a little differently.
What can you do today to help you to spark more joy?
