It’s safe to say that I’m a bit of a stickler when it comes to my home. I’m not too scared to admit that I like things a certain way, that I’ve got my own very firm ideas about how I want everything to look, and that there are certain things that I’m just not that happy to compromise on. And here’s the thing… Until recently, living the solo life was my jam.

But I’ve very recently celebrated exactly one year of living with my significant other. It’s been a learning curve, to say the least. My home is my own personal haven, and I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I had my reservations about sharing it with someone else. But I’ve learned some beautiful lessons along the way, and today, I want to share a few of them with you. Without any further ado, let’s get stuck in…

Sometimes you have to be willing to go after what you want

Not too long ago, I was quite unhappily single. It was something that I’d avoided thinking about for years, and instead I’d thrown myself into decorating my first home and concentrating on my career. But still, I knew that there was something missing. I knew that I ultimately wanted to share my life with someone, and to be frank, I realised that I’d made excuses for far too long.

So I signed up to a Devon dating site. It was massively out of my comfort zone, but it was the best decision I’d ever made. I was finally putting my life back into my own hands and seeking out what I really desired. When you do something like that, it’s so empowering.

Compromise is the key to everything

This was a lesson that I was quite possibly a little reluctant to learn! If you’re using dating sites in Devon and you’re hoping to start a life with someone, this is something that’s important to keep in mind. As you move forward together with a partner, there are going to be certain things that you just don’t agree on.

That’s completely normal. What’s most important is that you find a way to compromise. At the end of the day, does it really matter if you end up painting the front room a colour that wouldn’t necessarily have been your first choice?

Having a partner is a beautiful thing

I love having someone special to share my home with, and I’m so grateful that I decided to get out of my comfort zone and start dating again. I know it can seem scary and overwhelming at first, but it could prove to be the best thing you ever do.

Remember that it’s never too late. There are lots of options if you’re interested in over 50s dating, and there’s plenty of time for you to find your special someone.

If you’re a home and interiors fan and you share your living space with someone else, how have you made that work for you?
